Traction Batteries

Traction batteries are comprised of lead-acid, Li-ion and NiMH based solutions. Lead-acid batteries fulfil the requirements of the application at a reasonable cost due to the low upfront cost of the battery. However, these applications may offer room for improvement if other suitable batteries can meet the economic requirements. A motorized wheel chair for example can run longer on Nilar’s bipolar NiMH battery compared to lead-acid based solutions used today. Given that the life-time of the equipment is usually longer than the calendar life of a lead-acid battery, replacement of the battery is usually necessary. By implementing Nilar’s bipolar NiMH battery the manufacturer can offer a product with superior performance and lower total cost of ownership.

According to Avicenne Energy the traction battery market was valued at USD 1.5 billion in 2010 and showed high growth from low levels in 2000. The Company believes that it can approach up to 70 percent of this market.
